Organisations in support
Industry groups, unions and organisations are coming out in support of Australia's need for high-speed broadband.
The Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (AEEMA)
In AAMA's 16 July BULLETIN to members, Chief Executive, Angus M Robinson, says:
"In the emerging era of ubiquitous computing and the new information economy, communications must be seen in the same light as other essential infrastructure such as roads and rail. All homes and businesses should have access to high speed Internet connectivity at reasonable prices, using appropriate technology."
The organisation calls for Government urgently act to facilitate investment in new telecommunications infrastructure:
"What government must do without delay is adjust the current regulatory settings to ensure they provide the necessary certainty and incentives for industry to invest."

Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA)
AIMIA's June 2007 Newsletter says high-speed broadband is now high on the political agenda, and urges all members to get active:
"High-speed broadband … is fundamental to what we do and the introduction and widespread availability of even basic broadband services in Australia has propelled the growth in the industry in the last four years.
"…. the economists realised that high-speed infrastructure was a bit like other infrastructure, ports and roads and stuff, and that if we are to remain globally competitive in the twenty-first century in areas other than sport, a first-class, nationally available broadband network is vital.
"...So we’re urging every AIMIA Member to take every opportunity to tell politicians, journalists and anyone else that will help push this along that Australia needs a real broadband solution, one that makes us competitive globally and helps drive innovation in Australia."

CEPU Communications Division (Communication Workers Union of Australia)
On 22 May 2007, the CEPU Communications Division released a bulletin entitled ACCC prepares to vandalise national network, stating:
"Sub-loop unbundling would pave the way for escalating fault levels.
"And, given the price that the G9 proposes to pay Telstra for the use of this copper ($5 per line per month), it would lead to a haemorrhaging of those revenues that Telstra needs to maintain services nation-wide."

National ICT Alliance

The National ITC Alliance (www.nictia.org.au) provides a forum where industry organisations representing the Australian information and communication technology industries and industry professionals can exchange views and discuss initiatives to advance promotion and development.
The ITC Alliance stated in their 10 year strategic vision for development of the Australian information and communications technology (ICT) industry, released on 15 May 2007:
"A consistent, reliable, high speed national broadband infrastructure that employs the latest technologies will be a key facet to delivering growth in the Australian economy over the next decade."
In an era of convergence it is timely to revisit the original intent of our existing regulatory instruments to determine their ongoing appropriateness."
